RBI - Communalism and Terrorism are interlinked, challenges in controlling them

Hello Readers,
In view of the upcoming RBI Grade B Exam, we are providing you an essay on "Communalism and Terrorism are interlinked, challenges in controlling them". Hope you like the post!!!

Communalism is a black spot on the name of secular India. The cancer of communalism is eating into the vitals of our nation. Every year, we have communal riots in one or another city of the country. Cities like Aligarh, Moradabad, Kanpur and Ahmadabad have frequent communal riots.

The root cause of communalism is religious intolerance. It is fanned by religious fanatics who spread communal hatred in order to feather their own nest.

Terrorism on the other hand is an act of violence by some individuals with the aim to create fear, anxiety, panic and disturbance in the minds of the common people.

Terrorist believe in destruction, death and creating lawlessness. They use such methods to exert pressure on the governments to concede their demands. Government is using counter terror methods to control terrorism.

Sometimes, communalism and terrorism are interlinked. Communalism is invariably due to religious intolerance; sometimes it takes the shape of religious terrorism, whose cause could be religious persecution. In India people are suffering from both communalism and terrorism.

Generally people belonging to different religious faiths when stay together tend to develop a sense of uneasy relationship with people belonging to other religion. Some religious groups develop a feeling of being persecuted. They want to assert themselves through acts of terror. There are many such cases in India that have communal angle to terrorist acts.

The perpetrators of communalism and terrorism lack a rational, scientific and democratic approach towards the society. They are bigoted lot who believe in acts of violence.

It is high time that those who divide the society though acts of communalism or terrorism should be brought to justice. The government should enact strict laws to combat this problem and people should cooperate in its eradication.

In case of terrorism enacting laws and increasing counter insurgency methods could be the solutions, communalism on the other hand can be tackled in many ways.

We must understand, dividing the country in the name of caste color, region, and religion, nationalities etc are all act of communalism. The disease of communalism runs deep into our society and needs to be eradicated from its roots.

It’s a shame for our country that even after more than 60 years of independence and professing to be a secular nation, communalism still prevails in our society.

Both communalism and terrorism is a result of the state of mind which can be eradicated by certain actions of the government and the people. The government should introduce anti communal laws in the country. Further, it should introduce anti communal lessons in the school syllabus.

In order to eradicate the problem of terrorism and communalism it is imperative to develop a sense of universal brotherhood in the country. So the message of Universal Brotherhood should be given prime importance. If secular India has to be developed, it has to build on the edifice of universal brotherhood.

All the best!!

An inner view to GST(Goods And Services Tax)

Recently GST(Goods and services Tax) was in headlines and the proposal is going rounds in the economic fraternity, GST when comes in to picture sooner or later will help economic scenario to a very large extent and will create a utopia for the companies and people. It is an important topic in terms of forthcoming examinations,  So let’s understand what GST is.

1.    What is GST?
It is an indirect tax that will lead to the abolition of all other taxes such as, central sales tax, state-level sales  tax, excise duty, service tax, and value-added tax (VAT). Both the state  and the central governments will impose GST on almost all goods and  services produced in India or imported into the country.

2.    What categories are exempt from GST?
Exports will not be subject to GST. Direct taxes, such as income tax, corporate tax and capital gains tax will not be affected.

3.    How will GST benefit the economy?
It will simplify India's tax structure, broaden the tax base, and create a common market across states. This will lead to increased compliance and increase India's  tax-to-gross domestic product ratio. According to a report by the National Council of Applied Economic Research, GST is expected to increase economic growth by between 0.9 per cent and 1.7 per cent.  Exports are expected to increase by between 3.2 per cent and 6.3 percent, while imports will likel rise 2.4-4.7 per cent, the study found.

4.    How will GST benefit corporate?
It will be beneficial for India Inc as the average tax burden on companies will fall. Reducing production costs will make exporters more competitive.

5.    Will goods and services become costly?
The highest rate of taxation under GST will be around 15 per cent in the first year, and eventually come down to 12 per cent in the second year. By comparison, the current rate of the various indirect taxes levied in India amounts to roughly 20 per cent. Goods deemed necessary or of basic importance will be taxed at a lower rate.

6.    Will state governments lose out?
Some states fear that a uniform tax rate, if lower than their existing rates, will dent collections.  However, the central government has said it will compensate states for the potential revenue loss. The reduced and uniform taxation will help more pouring of money in the state.

7.    Can states decide to opt out of GST?
In a deviation from its earlier stand, the government has agreed for a phased roll-out of GST. States will also have the flexibility to opt out of GST.

8.    How will it become a reality?
The GST can be implemented only through a Constitutional Amendment Bill, which means it needs to be approved by not less than two-thirds of the members present and voting in each House of Parliament. The GST must also be ratified by the legislatures of at least one-half of the states.

RBI & SBI PO 2014 - India's stand on human rights issue in Srilanka

Hello Readers,
In view of the upcoming SBI PO 2014 & RBI Grade B Officer 2014, we are providing you an essay on "India's stand on human rights in Sri Lanka". This can be asked in the form of essay or Paragraph.

The UN Meeting held during March 2014 was a defining moment for India's Foreign Policy. The meeting was held to Vote on a Resolution seeking an Enquiry from The International Community into the war crimes committed by the Lankan forces on the forces belonging to the banned outfit LTTE. International Community gave a clear Majority favouring the Resolution. Only 22 countries voted against the resolution.

As India and Lanka share friendly relations Sri lanka had appealed to India to vote against the resolution before the Voting actually took place.Meanwhile all the regional parties of Tamilnadu were pressurizing the Government to vote for the Resolution as Lanka has sizeable number of Tamilians in its Northern part and the parties believed Tamilians were subjected to war crimes.Though it was politically motivated, the Govt could not ignore their concerns. There were agitations in some parts of Tamilnadu to put pressure on the Govt to Vote for the resolution. There was Widespread anticipation to see as to how India votes in the meeting.Strangely India abstained from voting.Since it neither wanted backlash at home in the case of voting against resolution nor wanted to have strained ties with Lanka.

PROS
  • Srilanka being a very close neighbor of India shares cultural and regional ties with India.A vote favouring the resolution would has strained the relationship with the Island Country.
  • India has bad relations with Pakistan from the time it attained Independence. It also has Border Problems with China.2 wars with Pakistan and 1 with China have been fought since independence.India cannot afford to turn Srilanka from a friend to a foe.In an event of Confrontation with any of the above mentioned Countries,India will need Srilanka to support it's cause.
  • It also shows a neutral stand. It will not invite the ire of either Srilanka or Western countries and hence it is a safe stand.
  • Oil imports to India was affected because of sanctions against Iran. Though the magnitude of trade is not too high, India does not want to strain its economy because Trade will be affected by Voting for the Resolution.
  • There could have been backlash in Tamilnadu if India had voted against the resolution heeding to Srilanka's request.Even though it was politically motivated it could not be ignored.
  • India avoided a situation where Western countries would be very unhappy with India if it voted against the resolution.

CONS
  • Abstaining from Voting in such a sensitive Issue like Human Rights violations dilutes India's credibility to become a major power with considerable clout among other countries and also to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
  • Abstaining from Voting in such an issue is ethically wrong as it is related to war crimes.
  • Projects India as a weak country whose internal politics determine its Foreign Policy. When a country does'nt take a stand on a sensitive issue involving its neighbor, one will doubt credibility of its decisions on other international issues far from its borders.
  • When India does not take a stand on such a sensitive issue involving one of its closest neighbors,International community will doubt India's concerns for human rights.
  • Other neighbors will get an impression that India is not a strong country. Even our image in front of the Global community will be affected as India will be seen as a country which is not bothered about Human rights violations in its neighborhood.
  • This incident will set a bad precedent for future Diplomatic decisions.

Though it is not mandatory for any country to take a stand on each and every issue, it should not shy away from taking bold decision in the sensitivitiest of issue like Human rights violation. That too at a time when India is looking at becoming a major player in the world and securing permanent membership at the UN Security Council, such weak decisions will only push India farther from its dream.

The topic is very important for the upcoming exam. I would highly recommend you to study it carefully!!!
